LEGAL
Privacy policy
Effective 13 October 2026.
This policy explains the limited information handled by this static publication, the browser preference it stores and what happens when a reader contacts the newsroom directly.
1. Scope
This policy applies to pages published under Canadian Civic Review. It does not govern a third-party website, email provider, telephone carrier or authority reached through an external service.
2. Information collected automatically
The site code does not include an analytics service, advertising pixel, account system or behavioural profile. The hosting provider may process technical request information such as an IP address, browser type, requested path, timestamp and security logs as necessary to deliver and protect the service.
3. Information you choose to provide
If you email or telephone the publication, we may receive your name, contact details, message and attachments. Send only the minimum information needed. Do not submit passport numbers, immigration files, banking details, passwords or government identifiers.
4. How information is used
- To respond to editorial, correction, privacy or accessibility enquiries.
- To assess a source or correction submitted voluntarily.
- To maintain service security and prevent misuse.
- To meet an applicable legal obligation.
5. Browser storage
The site stores the value editorial-cookie-choice locally in your browser so the consent notice remembers a selection. The site does not use that value to identify you or follow activity across other websites.
6. Sharing and disclosure
Contact information is not sold. It may be disclosed to a service provider used to operate communications or hosting, when required by law, or when reasonably necessary to protect the site and its users. A submitted source may be discussed internally for verification, with unnecessary personal details removed where practical.
7. Retention and security
Correspondence may be retained only as long as reasonably needed for the enquiry, editorial record, dispute prevention or legal obligation. Reasonable safeguards are used, but no email or internet transmission can be guaranteed completely secure.
8. Your choices
You can clear local browser storage, avoid sending optional information, or request access, correction or deletion of information contained in direct correspondence, subject to applicable exceptions. Contact [email protected].
9. Children and changes
The site is intended for a general audience and does not knowingly seek personal information from children. Material changes to this policy will be shown by a revised effective date.
