Cookie and browser-storage policy
Effective 13 October 2026.
Canadian Civic Review uses one first-party browser preference and no advertising, analytics or cross-site tracking cookies.
1. What cookies and local storage are
Cookies are small values a website may ask a browser to retain. Local storage is a similar browser feature that keeps a value on the device. This site uses local storage rather than an advertising identifier.
2. Preference currently used
editorial-cookie-choice records either “essential” or “optional” after you use the consent banner. Its purpose is only to prevent the notice from appearing on every page. It is first-party, is not transmitted by the site’s JavaScript and remains until browser storage is cleared.
3. Categories not in use
- No advertising or remarketing cookies.
- No audience-measurement or analytics cookies.
- No social-media tracking pixels.
- No cross-site profiling identifiers.
- No location, passport, immigration or payment data stored in the browser.
4. Consent controls
“Essential only” records the preference without activating optional technology. “Accept optional” also records the preference, but currently activates nothing additional because optional trackers are not installed. The wording is retained so the interface remains clear if site functionality changes later.
5. Changing or clearing a choice
Select “Cookie settings” in the footer to reopen the panel. You may also clear storage using browser controls; the banner will appear again on the next page load. Blocking storage will not prevent access to articles, though the banner choice may not persist.
6. Future changes
If analytics, embedded media or another optional service is introduced, this policy and consent mechanism must be updated before that technology is activated. Questions may be sent to [email protected].
